The platform is designed to support ASE students through continuous wellbeing monitoring, early risk detection, and evidence-based psychological guidance.

Why SENTIA?

Universities are facing a growing mental health challenge. Anxiety, academic stress, sleep disturbances, and social anxiety have become increasingly prevalent among students, particularly during periods of transition such as the beginning of university studies or during high-pressure periods including examinations, deadlines, and thesis preparation. These difficulties can significantly affect both academic performance and overall wellbeing.

At the same time, students increasingly seek guidance from general-purpose AI chatbots and online sources. While readily accessible, these tools often provide generic, non-personalized responses and may lack scientific validation or appropriate safeguards. Without clinical oversight, they can contribute to misinformation, symptom misinterpretation, increased anxiety, and inappropriate self-diagnosis.

Many students also rely on unverified online content, including blogs, forums, and social media platforms, rather than seeking support from qualified professionals or university counseling services. As a result, opportunities for early intervention may be missed and existing difficulties may worsen.

SENTIA Student Self-Help Companion is created to address these challenges by combining the accessibility of modern AI technologies with validated psychometric assessments, evidence-based knowledge, deterministic risk evaluation, and specialist supervision. Rather than functioning as an unrestricted conversational chatbot, SENTIA operates within a structured, scientifically grounded framework designed to promote self-awareness, prevention, and timely access to professional support when needed.

Supporting Students Through Continuous Wellbeing Monitoring

The platform provides students with a safe and accessible environment where they can assess their psychological wellbeing using validated instruments and better understand the meaning of their results, monitor changes over time, and gain insight into their emotional and psychological wellbeing through clear indicators, personalized feedback, and longitudinal tracking.

SENTIA reduces the risks associated with misinformation and self-diagnosis while encouraging informed and responsible self-reflection.

Early Risk Detection and Specialist Support

A core component of SENTIA Student Self-Help Companion is its longitudinal monitoring capability, which continuously tracks wellbeing indicators and identifies emerging patterns that may signal increasing psychological burden. When predefined risk thresholds are exceeded, the platform can activate escalation protocols and notify specialists from the university Counseling and Career Guidance Center (CCOC) through a dedicated monitoring dashboard and communication tools, enabling timely and informed intervention.

For psychologists and counselors, SENTIA Student Self-Help Companion provides structured student profiles that integrate psychometric trajectories, contextual stressors, behavioral indicators, and risk signals into a unified view. This reduces the time spent on repetitive intake assessments and supports more focused, efficient, and personalized interventions.

Responsible AI for Student Wellbeing

SENTIA Student Self-Help Companion contributes to the development of a proactive university mental health ecosystem built on prevention, transparency, and scientific rigor. The platform promotes responsible and trustworthy use of artificial intelligence by ensuring that critical decisions remain under professional supervision while AI serves as an explainable, auditable, and evidence-based support tool.

SENTIA Student Self-Help Companion does not diagnose mental health conditions, prescribe treatment, or replace professional care. Its purpose is to support students, psychologists, and university services through continuous monitoring, evidence-based guidance, and early identification of individuals who may benefit from additional support.

SENTIA Student Self-Help Companion is being developed within the AIforStudents: Deterministic and AI-Driven Digital Platforms for Research Support and Student Wellbeing Monitoring project implemented by the Bucharest University of Economic Studies (ASE).
